HDMI Compact Active Cables
A new class of consumer digital cables is known as Compact Active Cables. HDMI Compact Active cables embed signal processing technology directly into the cable structure to improve bandwidth performance and extend the capability of HDMI communication standard. In HDMI Compact Active cable solutions, the embedded chip compensates for the data loss which occurs when very high speed signals are transmitted over copper. This active boosting means that active cables can be made thinner, longer, faster, lighter and more compact than passive HDMI cables.
Maxcable HDMI Compact Active Cables are embedded a Red Mere 1689 equalizer IC inside a cable assembly that enables our Compact Active cables to deliver a new industry-leading 10.2 Gb/s data rate.
The benefits of Compact Active cables are as below:
• The cables are thinner, more compact and light weight and are easily manufactured in a volume production
environment.
• To be flexible and easy to roll up to match the compact sizes of products, such as mobile phones, MP3 players,
digital cameras, portable gaming consoles, etc.
• The better possible performance, quality and reliability, the supported cable length based on the same speed is
5 times longer than HDMI passive cables. Please see the table below to show a matrix of cable Gauge vs. Length
for cables with and without active equalization.

As a result, active equalization techniques overcome all of the performance limitations normally associated with highly attenuated cables. This technology enables a new breed of compact cables capable of longer lengths, thinner outer diameters, increased flexibility, guaranteed quality and a dramatic improvement in performance. Compact Active cable technology will find its way into a broad range of communications applications.
